You set high standards for yourself.

But somewhere along the way, the pursuit of doing things well became the fear of doing things wrong. The bar keeps moving. Nothing feels quite good enough. And the effort required to keep up with your own expectations is quietly wearing you down. Perfectionism isn’t about being detail-oriented or ambitious. At its core, it’s about what you believe will happen if you fall short — and the lengths you’ll go to make sure you don’t.

You work hard, care deeply, and want to do things well. For a long time, that drive has served you — and in many ways, it still does.

If any of these feel familiar, you’re not alone — and there is a way through that doesn’t require lowering your standards.

Perfectionism doesn’t always look the way people expect.

What This Can Look Like

For many of our clients it shows up as:

Chronic stress, burnout, or anxiety driven by relentlessly high self-expectations

Feeling like you’re only as good as your last achievement

Avoiding new challenges or opportunities for fear of failure or looking incompetent

Difficulty delegating because nobody else will do it quite right

A harsh inner critic that’s quick to point out mistakes and slow to acknowledge success

Spending far more time on things than is necessary or sustainable

Procrastinating on tasks because starting feels too risky — what if it’s not good enough?

Perfectionism therapy at MovAttune isn’t about convincing you to stop caring or settle for less.

It’s about helping you understand where your perfectionism comes from, what it’s costing you, and how to build a healthier relationship with achievement and self-worth. We help you distinguish between healthy striving — which is motivating, sustainable, and values-driven — and perfectionism — which is fear-driven, exhausting, and never quite satisfying. That distinction changes everything.

Our approach draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and self-compassion based approaches.

A Note on Perfectionism, Anxiety, and ADHD

Perfectionism and anxiety are closely linked — and many of our clients find that working on one naturally affects the other.

Perfectionism is also commonly seen alongside ADHD and burnout. If any of these feel relevant to your experience, we can explore all of it together.

BOOK AN ASSESSMENT

Perfectionism therapy typically begins with one or two sessions to understand your history, patterns, and goals. Sessions are 50 minutes and are available in person in Calgary or virtually across Alberta.
